Among global health issues, anti-microbial resistance is one of the major frequently observed issue. COVID-19, tuberculosis, malaria and hepatitis are some of the major health issues almost affecting 50% of global population. Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the most serious, highly contagious and infectious disease in the world. About 1.7 billion people are said to be infected with M. tuberculosis bacteria in the world. On an average 1 to 1.5 million people die of Tuberculosis. World Health Organization (WHO) reported approximately 9.9 million incident cases and 1.28 million deaths related to TB in 2020 (WHO, Global TB
Report, 2021). India reported total number of incident TB patients (new and relapse) notified during 2021 were 19,33,381 as opposed to that of 16,28,161 in 2020 which was 19% higher.
According to Tuberculosis action plan for the WHO European Region (2016-2020) the implementation of the new TB action plan would mean an estimated 3.1 million lives would be saved, 1.4 million TB patients would be cured, and 1.7 million new cases of all forms of TB would be prevented. The cost of implementing the plan was estimated at US$15 billion. Based on the economic analysis of lives saved and avoidable suffering prevented, as illustrated by an improvement in disability-adjusted life-years, the plan should prove highly cost–effective, resulting in savings of US$48 billion. According to WHO Global TB Report (2021) about US$6.5 Billion (National TB Budget, 2021) was assigned for Global TB control programme for the year 2021. The vision of the “End TB strategy” of the World Health Organization (WHO) is of a world free of tuberculosis by the year 2035 (The end TB strategy, Geneva: WHO, 2014).
Rampant use of steroids, immunosuppressants, synthetic antibiotics, antifungals and antiviral led to gradual decrease in host immunity and increase in resistance of microbes. One of our motoes is to develop effective and safe natural alternative to eliminate antimicrobial resistant bacterial, viral and fungal disorders.
Global warming is one of the major environmental issues leading to drastic climate changes in global ecosystem. Global flora and fauna are drastically affected by uncontrolled anthropogenic activities. Air, water and soil pollution must be checked and controlled with immediate effect. We shall collaborate with existing efforts and implement collective action to tackle climate change and its adverse impacts on our planet.
